Savvy Stay-Cation Ideas for Summertime in Chico!

by Savvy Saver Girl on August 5, 2011

With money tight and gas prices up this summer, why not consider a “stay-cation”? What is a stay-cation you ask? It is a mini vacation in or around your home town.

Some ideas for planning a stay-cation with your family are:

- Book a night at a local hotel and enjoy the pool, air conditioned rooms, and other amenities they provide. The Oxford Suites in Chico includes complimentary happy hour and breakfast with their guest stays.

- Taking advantage of places you would not regularly visit can be exciting, fun, and even nostalgic. For instance, Chico’s Funland has roller skating, miniature golf, and batting cages. Stepping onto their facilities brought a smile to my face and an eagerness to try my luck at these things I haven’t done since I was a kid.

- What about the Kirshner Wildlife Experience? How lucky are we to have this amazing wildlife sanctuary in our backyard?

- Redding has WaterWorks Park which is can be a blast and refreshing on a hot day, and Redding’s Turtle Bay Museum is located by the Sundial Bridge.

- Bidwell Park has One Mile Recreation Area (Sycamore Pond) for swimming, along with many lakes, rivers and parks with picnic facilities to enjoy.

So save your family some money and create a lasting summer experience by trying a “stay-cation”. Remember, memories last forever and memories can be priceless!

Hi Amanda. Thanks for stumbling onto my site. Chico has so much to offer and the savings are out there. Your Tomato Basil Tarts with Goat Cheese recipe looks great.! I’m going to give it try.
